Description
Studies of vaccine effectiveness (VE) rely on accurate identification of vaccination and cases of vaccine-preventable disease. In practice, diagnostic tests, clinical case definitions and vaccination records often present inaccuracies, leading to biased VE estimates. We discuss the potential impact of differential and non-differential disease and exposure misclassification on vaccine effectiveness estimates for different real-life scenarios. As the potential impact of bias strongly depends on the scenario, we will introduce a simulation-based web-application graphically presenting bias for a wide range of user-selected parameters, allowing users to evaluate the potential bias of exposure and disease misclassification for scenarios of interest.
